Reading your piece relating to Iran, I also recall seeing a 
correspondant's report from that country some months ago 
regarding the younger section of its population. It broadly 
stated that, there had been a pronounced move away from wanting 
an overbearing theocratic state to a more liberal, 'western' if 
you will, approach to living. Women wearing western style dress 
and make-up in public is not an uncommon sight, as an example. 
That has all happened naturally, its people have CHOSEN to have 
it that way, with no prompting from anyone outside it's borders.

Point of debate: I can't speak as an expert on the country but 
prior to Sept 11, young and old alike in large 
majority 'despised' the Taliban regime bordering them. The main 
reason being, lucrative heroin trafficing by the Taliban gangs, 
which were and probably still are, harming a section of their 
nation's youth, as it has done in many other countries. Given 
time, the Iranian authorities in some fashion would, I 
understand, would have acted in their own interests against the 
Taliban. In the context of the U.S.A's and its allies direct 
intervention in Afganistan, full-scale bombing etc, do you in 
your opinion, and from information that you've gleaned, think 
that Iran's youth will remain supportive of America et al under 
the current circumstances indefinately?

John, for reference, if I state a 'point of debate' formally, it 
means I either mostly don't have a fixed view on the subject or 
it's a point for the sake of debate only.

As a kind of related topic, I would like to acknowledge Turkey's 
involvement in the current crisis, having seen them make a 
commitment in the Gulf War of providing strategic bases for the 
Allies to operate from, they have gone a few steps further and 
have provided their own 'special forces' units for the effort 
against the Taliban. They are of course a predominantly Islamic 
country but 'secular' never the less, which in my opinion is 
something to be applauded. Their cherished aim is to become part 
of the European Union, an aim in which they have failed in 
achieving so far. Human rights abuses are commonly sited as a 
reason for exclusion, I don't know how much that is an issue any 
more, I have no direct knowledge. Assuming the human rights 
abuse allegations can be resolved, it would in my opinion, be a 
black mark on the honour all of us in Western Europe if their 
exclusion from the E.U remained indefinately. In the current 
circumstances the importance of having Islamic allies, ie; 
nation states, in the world, is vital.

May I lastly, also acknowledge Germany's contribution of 3900 
military personnel being put towards the effort in Afganistan. 
It all helps.

the ultimate sacrifice to fight for the freedom we sometimes all 
take for granted, and to those loved ones left behind who pay a

for the WTC several times over, but you won't look at that.  If 
someone blamed you for killing 5,000 innocent people, wouldn't 
you stand up and say, "Hey, no, I didn't do that!"?  I sure 
would!  If one of your friends was accused of that, wouldn't you 
talk him into standing up for himself and speaking the truth 
about what happened to exonerate himself from blame?  That's not 
the evidence I speak of, but it's common sense.  The evidence 
speaks for itself.  Why don't you spend your time and energy 
looking at facts?

I'll tell you why I have no desire to have a 'chat' with you.  
It would be the same thing if I got into a discussion with 
someone about abortion, or the death penalty, or extreme

I need some help, please....

I'm the coordinator for an international letter-writing 
campaign, asking people to write to folks in NY and DC after 
9/11, but that's not why I'm writing this message.

Several people have asked me if we could/would write letters and 
draw pictures to families (mainly children and mothers) in 
Afghanistan to let them know we are worried about them and 
keeping them in our thoughts. We can find translators for the 
letters, but I know very little about Afghanistan, so I want to 
be sure NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE by doing this. I think we could get 
the UN to drop the letters and drawings off with food supplies --
 AND THERE WOULD BE NO U.S. PROPOGANDA in the notes -- just 
messages and drawings of support and caring (we'd make sure no 
Christian messages were sent, either).

Would this be helpful or a waste of time? What is the rate of 
literacy in Afghanistan? Can women receive mail there? Would it 
be better just to send drawings, and if so, what should they 
contain? There are a lot of moms and kids in the US who really 
want to do something to let moms and kids in Afghanistan and 
other Muslim nations know they are being thought of, and this is 
the only thing we can think of to do -- most of us are on 
limited incomes and unable to send money.

I believe you have been misguided.. To answer your first point, 
I never claimed to know the where abouts of Bin Laden. I said 
that I am qualified enough to get him, where ever he was hiding, 
regardeless.. but I would need the help of the riight people to 
do so. I have visited the FBI's sites, visited the sites 
provided to me by Spy earlier, received a few emails from a 
couple of people as well, in relation to this topic, but none of 
them where from competent US sources. Had I not believed I could 
get him, I would not have dared to make such a statement, as the 
back-fire thereof, would be unbearable.. The reasons for which I 
believe I can, I will keep to myself..

By reading your posts, I am sure you are smart enough to put 1 
and 1 together.. enough said.. but I live and work in the UAE..

I'm sorry I failed to capture your meaning.  To actually read 
between lines is nearly impossible when one is referring to the 
written word.  Reading between lines is really a reference to 
the spoken word.

Oh, I know I was major tough on you.  And I apologize.  In 
reality I really wanted to scream it from the rooftops here, for 
all those pinheads in your part of the world to hear.  If I 
thought it would do any good, or I could do any good, I'd hop 
the first plane and climb your roof.

The message that need be heard in Islam is:    Usama, really has 
hijacked Islam.  He has through deception, created intense hate 
against America and the West for nothing we have done to him or

purpose of driving Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, protect the oil,

entire country.  The world sanctions are in place because this 
sick evil man, is, and has developed weapons of mass 
destruction, in mass quantity.  He has used them on his own 
people and in the war against Iran.  It's quite obvious he will 
use them again.  Do you think Saddam would think twice about 
over-running the UAE?  He would not blink.  He'd take Kuwait and 
Saudi Arabia than The UAE.  He'd kill you all if had to.  But he 
wouldn't have to.  His threat and his power is so great your 
governments would just crumble.  All of Arabia should be 
thankful for the Americans.

Instead we get Usama bin Laden killing our civilians in the 
thousands - men, women and children.  Aside from the dead.  His 
act cost so many billions and billions of dollars.  The cleanup 
alone is 100 Billion dollars.  He's thrown our economy into a 
recession.  500,000 jobs are lost already and it's only the 
first 60 days.

Usama's goal is to overthrow our country by destroying our 
economy, and with it, the worlds economy.  The world, the entire 
world, and every being on this planet will be living and dying 
in a global economic depression.  And that includes all Islam.  

Question?  If America isn't around to defend Arabia, who would?  
That's right.  No one.  Then Usama can take over the holy lands, 
Mecca and Medina.  When that happens, you can say goodbye to 
your way of life.  For you will be living the life of the 
Taliban.  Your wife would be in a burka at all times when 
outdoors.  She would be whipped should her ankles mistakenly be 
shown.  Allah forbid she wants to work or be educated.  That's

Ashraf, what your religion needs now....desperately!...is a 
reformation. Christianity went through just that back in the 
17th Century, it rejected its crusading philosophy and got back 
to its founding religious principles. I'm not saying Islam is

Well...  I wear a seatbelt, ...and I carry a small ready-pack 
everywhere I go.  My ready-pack contains dual filter masks, a 
gas mask and filter(s), surgical gloves, chemical suit, pain 
meds, homeopathic antibiotics - colloidial silver, grapefruit 
seed extract and oxy boost.

Will my preparation be a successful defense?  Maybe not if I 
have unknown close proximity contact with an infected person or 
agent.  But I'm banking if it were to happen I'll have advance 
warning calling for quarantine of one or more cities allowing 
time to put on my gear and go home.  Home I have canned food and 
bottled water for three months and a large roll of 16 guage 
plastic & tape for the window & door openings.

Am I over-reacting?  Probably.  Can I better prepare?  
Probably.  But I think my preparation is about right.  I have

The pilot only got a really FORMAL AND SLIGHT condemn. It was a 
case of quite hypocrital and fake military justice, and a 
politically quite uncorrect behaviour of that administration. 
It would have been proper that he got many lots of years jail. I 
think no international rule could accept that a slaughter or 20 
people stays almost unpunished and gets archiviated as just a 
sort of "mistake".

beautiful story about how they found a live cat with her kittens

I will reconsider my position... maybe..  I tend to believe the 
SPCA in NYC is not lacking for funds.  They receive direct 
grants from the city, as well as all the receipts from animal 
licensing.  Somehow, a fund created for the animals, placing 
higher regard for the animal over the human is wrong.  Is this 
not the regular argument.  Are we not constantly barraged and 
assaulted by PETA in similiar fashion?  I think - no I'm sure, 
any pets rescued will be cared for.  I'll bet on it.  Do we need 
a fund?  No!!  But I'll think about it.

The Red Cross can't tell you this...

Possibly the American Red Cross's plan to commingle funds, to 
use a portion of the donations for infrastructure projects, and 
to retain a portion for reserves is not such a bad idea.

Here's why - Should there be another major attack, which most of 
us anticipate, will Americans flood charities to fund the effort 
as they did following the tragedy of 9/11?  Or have many maxed-
out their giving quotient?   Is there guarantee Americans will 
dig deeper to help?  And what if there's another attack after 
the second?

Donations to other vital charities serving many great causes are 
drying up following the outpour of donations for 9/11.  Many 
good charities are experiencing significant shortfalls in 
contributions, leaving some only hours away from having to close 
their doors forever.

The American Red Cross blood donations following this tragedy 
shored up our severely depleted blood supplies; blood that will 
be needed in the event of another attack or catastrophe.

Maybe it would not be such a bad idea to park some money in 
reserve.  And, if no further attacks are perpetrated within a 
logical predetermined time, say two years, then these reserves 
could be released to the families.

Would the 9/11 families object to using some of the funds to 
help victims of a new attack?  Let's ask them.

Together, we can save a life.

Sedition Law Used to Hold Suspects

WASHINGTON (AP) - Prosecutors seeking to hold people they 
suspect were in the early stages of terrorist plots may turn 
anew to a very old weapon - the Civil War-era law on sedition. 

Last week, prosecutors cited the rarely invoked law in the case 
of a student being detained in New York, and hinted they might 
make fuller use of it in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. 

With roots in laws that date back more than 200 years, the 
statute gives the government great flexibility in assembling 
prosecutions against people who plan but don't carry out 
criminal acts against the United States. 

``To the extent a jihad'' or holy war ``is invoked against the 
United States, it's like an announcement that `I'm putting 
myself under this statute,''' Saltzburg said. 

The U.S. law on sedition dates back to the 1790s when the Alien 
and Sedition acts of the John Adams administration targeted 
people who criticized the government. The acts expired and were 
not renewed amid a storm of criticism. 

A new law passed during the Civil War served as the basis for 
the current statute. 

There were Confederate sympathizers in the North and the law was 
passed to make it easier to punish people who conspired against 
the union, said University of Michigan law professor Richard 
Friedman. 

The government used the sedition law after World War I to 
convict anarchists. In the 1950s, the Supreme Court upheld 
convictions of communists on sedition charges for teaching 
doctrines that were held to be subversive. 


 

Where I'm at, we've been saying sedition laws is fair game.
I feel during war time these are valid. I pretend to be no 
expert in law, but I feel "rumblings by anyone in support of  
the enemy" must be exterminated and I consider much of 
these actions to boarder treason if not so.
Also there should be POW camps rather than our prison 
system used in such cases where said activites pertain to 
enemy support. Military law would then rule over the dogs 
(who do not deserve the rights of our civilian system).
